Rest Pods in Public Spaces: Renting Privacy by the Hour
Tired travellers and hospital visitors have nowhere to rest without booking a full hotel room โ a rest pod gives them private space exactly where they need it.

Rest pods are enclosed single-occupancy modules installed in high-footfall public spaces โ airports, hospitals, railway stations or university campuses. A guest books a pod via a kiosk or app for the required number of hours, pays by card and enters using a unique PIN or NFC. Inside they find an adjustable bed, climate control, lighting and device charging. The operator does not need to be physically present โ the entire operation is managed by an IoT platform. Revenue depends on occupancy, location and booking duration. The biggest challenge is not the technology but securing a long-term concession from the venue operator and managing hygienic turnover between guests.
Airports, hospital waiting areas and busy transport hubs share one persistent problem: in a space packed with people, there is nowhere to retreat, recharge or simply be alone for a moment. Seats are hard, ambient noise never stops, and basic privacy is impossible. A hotel is too far away, too expensive, and requires hours that simply aren't available.
โ๏ธThe global airport pod market is expanding
The airport sleeping pod segment is valued at over USD 87 million in 2025, with forecasts pointing to USD 119 million by 2031. The broader sleep pod market including corporate wellness exceeds USD 2.4 billion globally.
