Home NAS Server Setup: Private Cloud Without Monthly Subscriptions
Families with large photo archives pay cloud fees indefinitely. A NAS technician sets up their own secure storage โ once and for good.

A home NAS (Network Attached Storage) server is a network storage device that runs continuously in the customer's home, functioning as a private cloud. The technician sources the right hardware, configures the operating system (Synology DSM, QNAP QTS or TrueNAS), sets up RAID arrays for data protection, network parameters, automatic backups and user accounts. The entire process takes two to four hours on-site. The customer pays once โ for hardware and labour โ with no ongoing costs. The technician can also offer an annual service contract covering firmware updates and drive replacements.
Cloud storage is convenient, but its downsides become apparent over time: data sits on someone else's servers, monthly fees grow with every added terabyte, and when a provider goes down, you lose access entirely. Families with thousands of photos and videos hit storage limits before they've even considered an alternative.
๐The storage market is growing year on year
Household data volumes expand with every new smartphone generation and 4K camera. Demand for solutions independent of third-party cloud providers is steady and strengthening across the UK.
